Oprah stories a year premature

Health care reform, Afghanistan, the Fort Hood shootings. But what are the headlines filled with? Oprah!

Oprah is leaving her TV talk show. She’s leaving in 2011,  more than a year from now! But there are tears, reflection, and retrospectives everywhere you turn.

Fer cryin’ out loud, people, she’s not gone yet! She won’t be gone until 2011. And even then she won’t really be gone; she’ll just be moving over to her own network. At which time we’ll probably have to go through all this again. Along with all the predictions and speculation about the new network show.

Pathetic. Our national media are just pathetic.

  1. Ridiculous, isn’t it?
    ____________
Up to and including her tears of sorrow that will have to be repeated when she really says goodbye.

I’ve yet to hear an explanation of why she announced it this far in advance.

  2. Well, ya know she invented SELF HELP, right? We were basically a clueless society before she came along and opened all of our eyes. My friend wrote on FB, “I’m so sad about Oprah!” and I hadn’t heard her big press release “news” yet so I worried that she had passed away. I was obviously glad she hadn’t passed away but pissed that they made such big deal out of it. News…. gah!
    __________
I was rather stunned to hear she will have been on for 25 years! Dunno how that slipped up on me. But self-help was going strong before she showed up. I read through tons of those ’70s books: “I Ain’t Much Baby but I’m all I’ve Got,” “How to Be Your Own Best Friend,” “I’m Okay, You’re Okay,” and “Don’t Say Yes When You Want to Say No.” Read em all, I did …. and it didn’t do a damn bit of good. Yeah, I’ve been messed up at least that long. Sad, huh.
