Now THIS is a rainbow

  1. A beautiful photo.

When I see rainbows, or pictures of rainbows, it’s natural to wonder how far away they are. But of course, rainbows aren’t objects but artifacts of refraction when light passes through moisture in the air. Science and art – great combination.

    1. I wish I could remember the distance (as the crow flies) from Trail Ridge Road to Longs Peak. For some reason “10 to 14 miles” come to mind. Judging from the ridges visible here, I’d say this rainbow was closer to the peak than to the road, putting it at least 5 to 7 miles from the photographer.

    1. Oh, this isn’t mine. Read again, please. This is by professional photographer Nate Zeman. He was gracious enough to give me permission to reprint some of his work.

... and that's my two cents
