I was celebrating a nice rain shower just a few days ago. It didn’t amount to much, but it knocked the temp down by 20°. Nice. Then I made the mistake of saying it didn’t even dent the drought. Me and my big mouth.
It rained today. Man, did it rain!! The skies opened up and it poured at the rate of an inch an hour all over the metro area, out across the eastern plains, and up into Wyoming. Streets flooded, cars got drowned out. Rush hour was a mess. I loved it. Especially since I didn’t have to be out in it.
The hitch is, you don’t break a drought with a storm like this. You need many days of long, soaking rains to do that. But it was a start. And tomorrow is supposed to be much the same.
Meantime, the picture above was on tonight’s local news. The location they mentioned is just a few blocks from my house. Somebody needs to tell that little guy you don’t hide from storms in … storm drains.
Isn’t that the way? The damn storm just couldn’t spread itself out over a few days? I guess that’s why they say “When it rains, it pours”. Boy, did we have some horrible weather here in Chicagoland a few days ago. A tornado touched down about a mile from our house. Lots of rain, the sky turned a freakish green/black color, the sirens were going off. I’m so fortunate we made out ok. Our neighborhood seemed fine. A neighbors tree was ripped out from the roots but it just seemed to cherry pick its destruction, it was very random.
That picture of the little raccoon is so sad, poor little guy is misplaced. Must have been a doozy for ya. That’s too bad when this type of weather hits and there is nothing but MORE rain in the forecast…. Hope your town gets some relief soon. I know what you mean about being home when it rains though, I always love that so much!

Eww, tornadoes are kind of unusual in Chicago, aren’t they? Open plains of Illinois, yes, but Chicago proper? So glad you all (that’s Okie speak) got through it safely. I know exactly what you mean about the greenish skies. I’ve seen enough of those to last a lifetime. Actually, we had a brief tornado warning today during our storm, but I didn’t think it worth mentioning. The yokels here don’t know the difference between a watch and a warning, and they’ll issue either based on reports from the general public. Also, no sirens here. Makes me feel vulnerable when the “experts” aren’t.
Speaking of, they think the Montauk Monster was a raccoon.

Really? Cat was my best guess, but there was nothing in the picture for size reference. It could have been the size of a cow for all I knew. 🙂
Oh, poor little guy. I hope he’s okay. You know, we had rain like that out here about three year’s back but it was relentless went of for days at a time and you’re right, it’s not good cuz it just slides houses down the hill and makes it impossible for the land to soak it up. Although, having it rain like that while at home without having to go out in unless I wanted would have some appeal. Great for naps, huh?

We could use a little of that “days at a time” kinda rain. But not in the mountains. It does bad things in those canyons, as you know. Flash floods = bad news
