No, claims Grapevine, Tex., preacher Ed Young, he didn’t do this for the publicity. He challenged his parishioners to have sex every day for a week, and he announced to the media in advance that he was going to do so. But he wasn’t looking for publicity. He actually had a bed on the stage during the presentation/speech/sermon. But he wasn’t seeking publicity. The entire performance was taped, and he has given a lot of interviews since his “sexperiment” (his word) ended. But he didn’t do it for the publicity.
Hmm, isn’t Christian sex supposed to be only for procreation? No, wait, that’s just the Catholics. Okay, then, it’s only for married couples. Nooo, in one video the pastor specifically mentions all the young singles who were in attendance. Yeah. Well, at least it’s supposed to be a personal, private thing between two people who love each other. But, wait, he had a bed on the stage and 20,000 people in the audience. There goes “personal” and “private.”
Apparently Rev. Young thinks he knows more about sex than the ill-informed sources teaching all those strange ideas I just mentioned. It’s what God taught us to do, he says. I guess God gave him all the stage directions, too. “Thou shalt inform the media a week in advance, so as to ensure adequate press coverage. Thou shalt have a bed on the stage when you speak, so as to draw maximum attention to thyself. …”
Pow! Christians suffer another self-inflicted wound.
Well, there’s something to be said for “make love, not war,” right? Think of the bonobos: they are the most peaceful primates, and they have sex about 4 bazillion times a day.

He should have invited Madonna as a guest – she could have brought the bed from one of her tours and shown the crowd how to do it too!

Yeppers, the bed would have been a much better prop if someone had demonstrated its use. And think of the additional publicity Madonna would have gotten for him.

Ya, I don’t know why he wouldn’t just admit that it was partially for publicity. If he’s doing all those interviews etc., obviously it is, at least in part. We all know that.
