Well, Rick Sanchez has made a fool of himself for the last time on CNN. He was fired today, seemingly because of a radio interview last night where he made some ill-considered remarks about Jews in general and comedian Jon Stewart in particular. I say “seemingly” because the network did not give a reason.
Personally, I didn’t find his remarks offensive so much as just dumb. Not unlike so many other dumb, clumsy things he’s said and done over the years. Sanchez wasn’t fired for making anti-semitic remarks; he was fired for committing one too many highly visible gaffes. Whatever. While he apparently feels he was denied opportunities and ultimately fired because he’s Hispanic, I’m inclined to think that might actually be why he wasn’t fired long before now.
