A bit of a dustup in Phoenix

Nature was playing games today with the folks in Phoenix, AZ. By now everyone has seen some clips of the dust storm and heard all the meteorologists going nuts over it. But in case you missed it, I’ve included some great video from Channel 10 in Phoenix.

I haven’t personally experienced anything like this since the early 1950s out in the Oklahoma panhandle, in what was sort of the tail end of the infamous Dust Bowl era. My dad was driving us all from Oklahoma City to Allenspark, Colorado, for our summer vacation, and we saw a storm like this coming straight at us. We had little choice but to keep going with all the windows and vents closed to try to keep out the dust. Visibility was so bad we could barely make out the center stripe in the road immediately in front of the car.

... and that's my two cents
