Still scowling into my coffee this morning, I flipped open the laptop to read my email. And there was that word, leaping from the screen:
supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it
Big. Bright blue. A live link. I almost spewed coffee all over the keyboard. So damn funny! At that moment I didn’t know or care what the post was about. The title alone was brilliant. Whatever the author was going through, I sympathized. Was it awful, frustrating, funny? Didn’t matter. That word is abso-fuckin-lutely brilliant. Its humor takes the sting off, defuses the situation, but still includes that very satisfying expletive. Best of all, it takes a few seconds to get your brain in gear and say it. It’s almost equivalent to taking a deep breath and counting to ten before doing something rash. And it’s fun to say! Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it. Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it. Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it. You could almost write a song about it. Oh, wait …
Anyway, this brilliantly unforgettable neologism was coined by the wuc, an Aussie blogger. I can’t imagine what other gems must lurk on her blog just waiting to be discovered, but I bow to her brilliance.
Thanks, wuc, for making my day!
When trying to express oneself, it’s frankly quite absurd,
To leaf through lengthy lexicons to find the perfect word.
A little spontaneity keeps conversation keen,
You need to find a way to say, precisely what you mean…
Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it!
It’s a great big, beautiful, wonderful, incredible, super-spectacular day
And your heart is humming with good times coming
And you got that happy feeling things are going your way
All the bells are ringing and a little bird’s singing while he sits on your windowsill
Singing yessiree, I can surely see, it will plainly be, most definitely
A super-spectacular day!
You go out for a spin and your sunroof caves in
And the steering wheel shakes so you slam on the brakes
And the gears get all stuck as you sideswipe a truck
And you run out of gas while you’re trying to pass
And you’re stalled on the tracks and you try to relax
But the train’s coming through and it’s heading for you
And you have a quick flash as you brace for the crash….
That it’s not such a super spectacular day.
Supercalifragilisticexpiali-fuck-it!
(LOL. The spell checker goes nuts when I say that.)
