As the world now knows, Commander Chris Hadfield, while on board the International Space Station, was far more than “just” an astronaut.
And, oh yes, after 5 months in space, he and his crew landed safely back on Earth Monday at 10:31 p.m. EDT.
BTW, is it just me, or do the Russian landings seem shockingly primitive compared to all the futuristic technology on the space station, the magnificent imagery from orbit, the graceful shuttle landings, etc?

I wondered the same thing about the landing, too. I figured what it came down to was purely a monetary reason. I’m sure this cost a ton less than a shuttle flight.
It’s bizarre. They leave that shiny, high tech space station and the next time we see them, they’re being carried away from a primitive-looking little pod and plopped into bucket seats that look like they were swiped from an auto salvage yard. All out in the middle of a dusty field. Helluva contrast, but apparently the best the Russians can do. I always worry about the safety of their vehicles and equipment; they look like leftovers from the ’70s.
