I discovered last night just how jaded I’ve become in regard to Olympic Opening Ceremonies. I found little of interest in the long, long show. I don’t know what’s happened to me; I used to enjoy such spectacles. I did notice later that a lot of writers were calling it “really gay.” Apparently our self-imposed “political correctness” doesn’t extend to foreign entities, especially those critical of the LGBT community.
Anyway, by far the most entertaining part of the whole evening, I thought, was the Russian Police Choir covering Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” It was just as incongruous as it sounds. I’ll never see those uniforms again without thinking of this. Not sure that’s what Putin intended.
For the best, funniest article about last night’s performance, see Buzzfeed’s “19 Best Moments Of The Russian Police Singing Daft Punk At The Opening Ceremony.” It’s complete with animated GIFs so you can relive all the best moments.
The original video can be viewed at NBCOlympics.com. You owe it to yourself to check out both the Buzzfeed story and NBC’s video. This video is not as good:
this sounds amazing.
They sound great. They just look so uncomfortable. Most of them, anyway.
Utterly hilarious…. so very, very Russian!
I don’t know which are funnier, the lead singers or the stoic old guys in the back.
