In the wake of two attractive young females (the Texas cheerleader, the Belgian soccer fan) getting trashed in social media because they posed with and posted photos of themselves with their big game trophy kills, someone named Jay Branscomb posted this on his Facebook page. This would be pretty funny if so many readers hadn’t believed it was real. Yes, sad as it is, there are a lot of people dumb enough, at least in the beginning, to believe Stephen Spielberg shot and killed a triceratops (aka extinct dinosaur). And they were angry!
“Inhumane.” “Disgusting.” “Animal killer.”
“Disgusting! I bet he only kept the horns!”
One wrote, “That’s Steven Spielberg, director of Jurassic Park!” To which another replied, “I dont care who he is he should have not shot that animal.”

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
My impulse was to laugh at the stupidity, but it IS sad when you think about that level of ignorance.
Too depressing for words. No wonder this country is in such a mess.
I noticed this silly chappie is at or with the American University. I must advise my children not to enrol my grandchildren in that establishment; assuming of course that there is such an establishment.
I will not comment on the United States education system, I’d hate to be accused of “Yankee bashing” 🙂 😉 🙂

Mr Branscomb, who describes himself as “aggressive progressive” admitted on Tuesday that his spoof was poking fun at “animal-rights activists who sometimes post photos of hunters with their exotic prey,” but it was the pro-hunting crowd who really took it to him.

wow, just wow. sometimes people scare me with their tenuous grip on reality.
I know exactly how you feel.
It was pretty obvious to me that the original posting was a joke, but the number of people who took it as real is just sad. Reality is just a dream to many of these people; I don’t think I could live in a state of being clueless and perpetually pissed off.
They don’t suffer. After all they are clueless about their own cluelessness. It’s those of us around them who suffer.

Reminds me of Jay Leno’s peripatetic skit wherein he would interview people on the street about current events and politics. I always wondered if NBC edited the clips to exclude knowledgable answers, but it sure didn’t look like it. Then again, I suppose thinking people would probably be home in the evening and not wandering the street to be interviewed.

Jimmy Fallon (or maybe it’s Kimmel) does a segment where they ask people on the street questions that are meaningless mashups of names and current events. And people answer with total seriousness, trying to appear knowledgeable. It’s edited, of course, to show only the really stupid, funny responses, but it’s distressing to see how many ignorant people there are out there.
This response along with PT’s below is inline with the one I was going to post which is in regard to how many Americans can not even name our current Vice President or Secretary of State! So why wouldn’t they believe that whoever that guy is sitting beside the large doubled-horned bull rhinoceros (Triceratops) didn’t kill it? 😀
But by law most people in this country get at least a grade school education. And what kid doesn’t know about dinosaurs? It’s like they gravitate to dinosaurs. My grandchildren could name most of the common ones by the time they were 6.
The ignorance is just horrifying.

So many think Mexico is a state.
And there’s the TSA agent that thought District of Columbia was a foreign country, asked a man for his passport and stopped him from boarding his plane…..supervisors said they are “educating” their staff so it doesn’t happen again…..
Ignorant people should not be put in positions of responsibility! Don’t agents have to pass some sort of test or something? Or would that violate their civil rights?

That wouldn’t be related to the Mexicans who think it’s still part of Mexico, would it?
Reminds me of Boston,In 2008 the War office (aka my wife) 2 daughters and son in law were detained for a shorttime at Logan Airport. The TSA person was suspicious of us because we spoke English without a German accent; you guessd it he thought Australia was in Europe a kind of Germanic state!
It’s funny now but at the time it was bloody annoying. 🙂
“Annoying” is all the TSA knows how to be. And that’s on a good day. It goes rapidly downhill from there.

Oh, I understand perfectly. I feel the same way. Why would anyone with half a brain want to waste time with such people? (That does sound terribly arrogant though, doesn’t it?)
Arrogant? Perhaps. Which is why I just let people think I’m crazy. They’re much less likely to break out the torches and pitchforks then… 😉
I don’t know what most other people think of me, but I’ve gotten old enough that, finally, I don’t really care. (And I didn’t mean you sounded arrogant; I thought I did.)
