Vice President Joe Biden is well known for his verbal gaffes and has put his foot in his mouth many times. But Tuesday he misplaced his hands instead. He put them on another man’s wife, Stephanie Carter, wife of new Secretary of Defense Ash Carter. In public. While Carter was speaking, just a few feet away, at his swearing-in ceremony.
I don’t want to hear that this is just “Joe being Joe.” I don’t care how old-fashioned or old school or out of touch “Good ol’ Joe” might be. He’s only 5 months older than I am and I know this is inappropriate. Why doesn’t he? Mrs. Carter seemed remarkably poised when it happened, but I’d like to think she was fighting the impulse to turn around and deck him. I don’t care if he is the vice president. The only woman he has any business getting this friendly with is his own wife.
I used to like Joe Biden. Now I’m just repulsed.
But it is “Joe being Joe”. Unfortunately. He likes people and he’s a good guy. But it is creepy that a professional Democratic politician doesn’t perceive normal social boundaries. I can partition this and live with it, but I can sympathize with your feelings too.
I might have partitioned and pardoned it this once, but only because I’d been unaware of all the other incidents. Now I wouldn’t want the guy within 10 feet of me.
I was equally appalled when Bush put his paws on Merkel in 2006, but at least that was a one-time incident. As far as we know.
Maybe the Rob Lowe Direct TV commercial could be given by Joe Biden…
“Hi, I’m Joe Biden, Vice President of the Untied States.”
“And I’m creepy Uncle Joe Biden.”
The problem is that they are the same guy!
Unfortunately.
Looks pretty creepy to me, and she looks extremely uncomfortable.
I, too, would be hesitant to make a scene and call out the VP of the US at a public event, especially when the focus is supposed to be on my husband. But that’s why he keeps getting away with it.
Waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy, too far.
Ugh, coming back to comment made me look at that picture again. Cringe!
