Orangs are very very smart. Once at the zoo I held up my then infant daughter to show her the orang,, and the orang got very excited. She kept reaching around her pen, trying to get to the baby and me. I felt that there was a mind at work, like a human mind. It was an odd moment. She wanted that baby!
I’ve seen and read a lot about orangs, chimps, and gorillas learning all kinds of ways to communicate with humans. Never fails to amaze and delight.
