America deserves better

  1. I think a couple of 3-year-olds would conduct themselves more maturely than these two … and speak more intelligently.

Between their latest little spat and Trump’s inanity in the Washington Post interview, I’m pretty much done. Wake me when it’s 2020.

  2. Yet Trump continues to gain followers. I just don’t get it. I don’t understand. I’ve been shaking my head so much in utter astonishment for months now that I’m surprised there’s still anything rattling around in it.

    I…. just…. don’t…. get…. it………………

    1. I’m afraid I do get it. I’m afraid it means there really are that many ignorant, bigoted, self-centered people in the US. I’m hoping I’m wrong. Please someone tell me I’m wrong …

      1. No, you’re not, because this is exactly what it is. What happened to people? So full of hate and ignorance… following the very same group of people that is making it harder and harder to earn a good living and get a quality education.

        1. Could be a mob mentality sort of thing. Those people have always existed, but they didn’t have a national leader or spokesman to rally around. Until now …

        2. I think they are all terrified of a world that is changing — and they can’t handle the change. They want a return to the early half of the twentieth century when white people called the shots and jobs lasted for a lifetime if you showed up on time and they thought the company would honor their longevity. They don’t know how to cope and Trump offers them hope. He plays on their insecurities and incites violence against people who are “different.” Although I understand all of this, it doesn’t mean I agree with them — I am firmly for Senator Sanders — I think all the Republican candidates would make terrible Presidents…

  3. Such a delightful illustration for such a depressing situation; one has to wonder will America come to it’s senses in time, or is it about to drag the world into the last war on this planet. I’m not particularly worried for me,but for my little Ruby and Poppy May I’m not holding out much hope now for years of happiness and tranquility. It’s all so very sad and depressing.

I cannot recall ever an election for a US President causing such apprehension, I’m sure it’s being felt world wide amongst civilized nations in particular and with glee in those not so civilized.

    1. If it’s sad and depressing for you, imagine what it is for US voters.

I confess I’ve used this picture before, but it’s just so perfect for our politicians and the DC establishment.

        1. I’m afraid to think what it looks like to the rest of the world, but I’m terribly embarrassed by it and angry as hell at the candidates that are doing this to us.

  4. My theory is that people love a celebrity—and whatever else he is, Trump is a celebrity. The people that support him want to be in the middle of whatever is the “going” thing. As for the Cruz/Trump skirmish, well, these same people just want to be entertained. Too simple? Probably, but I’m tired of trying to figure it out!

  5. I’m sick of both of them and the Koch Brothers and all the rest of these sleazeballs and their enablers and hangers-on. I’m getting some grim satisfaction out of seeing the Republicans fall apart, though. They sure have it coming.

    1. I read a great editorial a few weeks ago explaining how the GOP was sent a message in the last election to change its divisive ways or face complete dissolution in the next election. And this is the next election …

  6. Is it not sad to see America fall apart like this? Neither political party (Dem/Rep) has taken the moral high ground and run a clean campaign. The clean election laws are nothing but a joke!

    1. In recent years I’ve come to think everything about our government is a joke, especially our election system. I don’t know if it’s really worse now than it ever was; I’ve probably been very naive most of my life. But it sure seems worse.

  7. I think these election antics are prime evidence that the veneer of civilization is thin. As a species, we have only been out of the caves for 300 generations and democracy was first practiced only 100 generations ago. Herr Drumpf’s antics haven’t created these flaws, merely exposed them. I find it scary as hell that the course of the ship of state is set by the passions of the common man. Unfortunately, all the alternatives are worse.

    1. Now there’s a conundrum.

Age, citizenship, and residency are the only constitutional requirements for running for president, and yet we would not want the majority of those qualified to be president. Of course, the majority of ordinary citizens were effectively excluded by the Citizens United decision …

Even your average local employer insists on background checks, relevant experience and/or education, etc.

  8. It is stupid. Grow up and stop yelling at each other. It is tabloid nonsense
(Besides everyone here already knows about Cruz’s wife having a breakdown and sitting on the median of a TX highway and sobbing hysterically so that the police were called and took her into custody considering she “was a danger to herself”. That was flung around months ago. Who hasn’t completely flipped out moving to a new place? They prayed her “well” and now it’s all better. Done-ish)
Now on to serious stuff…like hairstyles or people being mean to women or dogs or kitties or something
Will this election cycle never end? Gag.

    1. So Trump’s wife was once a model, and Cruz’s wife got depressed once. What does all that have to do with these two men’s qualifications for president? At this rate they’ll get to the conventon without ever saying anything substative about anything.

  9. America does deserve better, but we’ve done this to ourselves…”We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.”
What are we complaining about,we’ve done this to ourselves! In my own personnel opinion this is just another perfect example of”live and let live.”

    1. John, there are a lot of people who don’t necesarily agree with your personal standards, but that does not make them bad. It just makes them different. And as long as everyone operates within the law, they’ve as much right to their beliefs as you have to yours.

  10. Viva-la-difference is fast becoming the cry of America. If we do not take a stand for something…we will fall for anything. Live and let live does not take a stand on anything. It kind of reminds me of a book titled ” I AM OK YOUR OK”.

    1. It doesn’t mean not taking a stand. It means you can take your stand and I can take mine and we leave each other alone. We’re both ok. We each just mind our own business. I’m liberal, you’re conservative and we’re both ok.

  11. How liberal should I be or how conservative should I be. Is there a grey area involved here? What do we tell our children? Is there really a right and a wrong. Is it all just a matter of opinion?

    1. There’s no “should” about it. You have free choice. But it is tough deciding where you stand on the political spectrum if, like me, you’re conservative on some issues and liberal on others. That’s one reason I’m an independent. Neither party represents all of my positions. And I’m not sure there’s a right or a wrong in politics other than extremism (whether right or left).

  12. PiedType, thank you for hearing my side of the hot political issues of the day. I know we don’t agree on many of the issues but I will always respond with out disrespecting you or your blog or Web page.

    1. Thanks, John. I really appreciate that. I try to be polite and respectful of everyone, whether they agree with me or not. Besides, how interesting would this blog be if everyone had the same point of view?

  13. Do you remember the “Baby Gabriel?Elizabeth Johnson” case from AZ a few years back ? Well she is back in the spot light again after being arrested for parole violation. For the life of me I do not understand why she is not in jail on contempt of court violations> She should be on bread and water in jail until she reviles where her baby is or who she gave the baby to. I think the court let her off way to easy.

  14. Yes it does, but just like before…WHERE IS THE BABY? She refuses to reveal what she did with her baby, and the court will not or can not do anything save give her a small jail time.

    1. I guess she doesn’t want to give up that one little bit of power she still has — knowing what she did with her baby. Besides, anything she admits to now would probably just leave her open to prosecution on additional charges.
