Guns at the GOP convention?

“Thousands Petition To Allow Guns At Republican Convention For ‘Safety’”

This Huffington Post headline today comes only a week or so after Donald Trump assured us there will likely be riots at the GOP convention in Cleveland.

The Change.org petition, with more than 30,000 supporters this evening, claims that the arena’s weapon ban makes those who attend the RNC in July “sitting ducks, utterly helpless against evil-doers and criminals.”  Ohio is an open carry state.

The petition notes that Cleveland is consistently listed as one of America’s ten most dangerous cities and says, “By forcing attendees to leave their firearms at home, the RNC and Quicken Loans Arena are putting tens of thousands of people at risk both inside and outside of the convention site.”

Trying to inject some levity into the situation, one HuffPo commenter observed, “It gives ‘Donald. Duck!’ a whole new meaning.”

Let’s hope everyone can still make jokes when this whole thing is over.

Note, March 30: Fortunately for all concerned, the petition turned out to be satire, sort of, for which an anonymous petitioner who calls himself The Hyperationalist claimed credit. CBS News interviewed him and discussed his rationale.

    1. It’s my understanding that the Secret Service is responsible for security at the event. “Law abiding citizens” should obey the law and not try to take their guns into the convention center. Besides, security at the door won’t let them in.

  1. I’ve been thinking about this again and I’ve come to the conclusion that it might be a good idea after all, they might finish up actually, accidentally of course, hitting donald trump!

    1. Probably not without hitting some Secret Service agents first. And who knows, if the threat level is high enough by then, there may be bulletproof glass around the stage.

  2. Oh, it’s just the old “give them enough rope and….” done with a modern twist?
Oh, let the children play. TV reruns are boring. Looks potentially like a copy cat 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. Hope there’s plenty of body armor for the dogs and horses.
Democrats could be the big winner with a smaller voter pool – hard to vote in intensive care…..
Oh darn, next people will be saying it’s all a conspiracy, right?
    What a mess.

... and that's my two cents
