I am but of course you know I HAVE to be XD Looks like we will go to the polls on 2nd July, our PM has threatened us with a ‘Double Dissolution’ which is his prerogative, and what a lot of people like me consider wrong. We should not allow it to be the right of one person to call an election when he /she feels like it within certain perameters. Should be a fixed day like the US has.

  4. Like to keep my “license to complain” up to date. Haven’t missed a single chance to vote for 59 years. Voting is a privilege, but I think it also should be viewed as a duty. Too bad only about half of U.S. eligible voters see it that way.

    2. An octogenarian like me with pretty similar views excepting I consider it a duty first and foremost; but then we here in Australia are pretty weird, we like our compulsory system XD

  5. I haven’t missed a national election since i was eligible, including, often, by absentee ballot from overseas. I used to think people shouldn’t vote if they don’t study the issues in detail, but I’ve changed my mind on that. Political parties represent important philosophical distinctions, just as reflected in ImALibertarian’s comment. The Democrats offer a government that regulates capitalism for the general good of society. The GOP these days seems to offer a strange blend of oligarchy, theocracy, and chest-beating military aggressiveness. People should ask what they want from government and then vote accordingly.

    1. I used to study the party platforms in detail, before I realized the candidates diverge widely from the party platforms. I do want to know the candidates’ positions on the issues I care about, although their positions are always subject to change and often depend on what they can convince Congress to do after they’re elected. And I have positions on both sides of the aisle sometimes, so have to make a call one way or the other on election day. Doing so was a lot harder back in the days when both parties were half way reasonable.
