roaring Alaskan river, bears fishing for salmon, seagulls circling overhead. Wilderness in all its glory. It’s Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park, Alaska.
This and several other webcams are powered by Explore.org. Even if the bears aren’t present, you’ve got the river, the forest, the gulls, and the hypnotic sound of the falls. It doesn’t get much better than this. According to the YouTube notes, this one-mile stretch of the Brooks River has the largest sockeye salmon run in the world.
I’ve had the camera up for quite a while and there is someone controlling it, zooming in and out and panning up and downstream, so the view is changing. There are some fishermen several hundred yards downstream. Doesn’t seem to bother the bears. Enough fish for everyone. Occasionally you can spot a fish jumping up the falls (I’ve counted as many as five at one time.)
The camera is on YouTube, so if you’ve got the right TV set-up, you can watch it all on your big screen.

Wasn’t familiar with this nature cam site. Lot’s of salmon jumping at the moment. Only grizzly there at the moment is not even close to where dinner is being served… thank’s for sharing. 🙂
Lots of different things on this site. I’ve been exploring it off and on all day. The last time I looked there were a couple of rangers (?) talking instead of views of the river. My guess is maybe the bears show up mostly in the morning. Glad you got to see one. There are “mug shots” of all the different bears, with their names. About all I could tell was that of the two I saw, one was brown and actively chasing salmon. The other was more black and mostly just sat waiting for the salmon to jump into his mouth.
