Our local KMGH Channel 7 ran this story at 6 pm. Also KUSA Channel 9, KDVR, KCNC, and The Denver Post. Two vandals were caught in the act and on camera, brazenly spray painting boulders on Lookout Mountain (nature center and preserve) near Golden, Colo. With any luck, the next story we see will be reporting their arrest and prosecution. It’s only a matter of time, since the photographer also recorded their license plate. (I understand why the plate number wasn’t shown, but it might be helpful to know if was local or out of state. The temporary plate shown in the video may not be theirs.)
The KMGH story said “the vandals could face a misdemeanor defacement of property charge, with a punishment of up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.” Personally I’d hit them with the maximum possible sentence.
Meantime, I’m glad the photographer, identified on YouTube as “Bob Sanders,” is unhurt; he’s just plain lucky. Lawbreakers like this might very well have attacked him — or worse — when he called them out. They did threaten to find him if he posted the video on YouTube but obviously he was undeterred. With any luck, the authorities will find them before they find Sanders.
This is Colorado. We’re very protective of our beautiful outdoors. If you’re stupid enough to do this here, be prepared to pay.
Well it’s obvious who the brave, courageous one is and it’s certainly not the two cowards trying, and succeeding to a certain extent,to hide their faces.
Gutless wonders grafetti “artists”; here they’re not quite as brave as yours seem to be, ours usually wear balaclava’s to hide their cowardly faces, just like those murdering butchers in the middle east
I’m stunned by the brazeness of these two. In broad daylight, with lots of people around. And when confronted they just walk away. Usually grafitti is done at night, or at least when there are no witnesses around. And this was planned in advance, obviously. Spray paint isn’t sold up on the mountain. Or maybe they drive around with a stock of paint cans in the car all the time, just in case they need them on the spur of the moment.
By the bye, hanging’s too good for them!
They’re lucky I won’t be the judge passing sentence.
I’m surprised that idiots like this would even take the time to go out into the beauty of nature. Disgusting excuse for human beings.
That’s why it’s so infuriating to me. They bought the paint and made a special trip out to the park just to do this. Why? What sort of jerks come up with a plan like that?
So pointless.
I think those two were idiots disguised as morons. They should pay the maximum fine AND have to scrub those rocks clean as a whistle and a dozen more just for good measure.
Pay the fine, do the time, AND scrub the rocks. Yep, yep, absolutely.
I totally agree!
I’m not sure if my comment posted, but the guy who confronted them is my hero. I’m very glad that he wasn’t hurt and I hope they spend the maximum jail time for this. Two idiots spray painting rocks…if that’s the only way they can think of to make a statement, they’re just pathetic.
He’s my hero too. I think very few people would have been that bold and responsible. But he’s lucky they didn’t turn on him. It could have ended much differently. Still, I was cheering for him as I watched the video.
I liked the fact that they covered their faces with their shirts…at least they knew it was something to be ashamed of. We need a little more sense of shame in this world.
And yet they didn’t start out with masks on. Did they seriously think no one would see them? Did they think people wouldn’t care and would just ignore them? In today’s society, I can almost understand their thinking that. But I don’t think they were the least bit ashamed. I think they just didn’t want to be identified and caught by the police. Getting caught would put a serious cramp in their plans to deface another park next weekend.
The not wearing masks seems to be an indicator of IQ as far as I’m concerned.
Yep, and these guys are waaaay down on the scale.
Well, there’s a message in those vandalisms, yes?
There certainly is.
