Tomorrow, April 15, Tax Day, is also the day for the Tax March. (I confess I only learned about it yesterday.) In Washington DC and in cities across the country, Americans will gather and march to demand Pres. Trump release his tax returns.
Like so many others, I believe Trump’s refusal to release his tax information not only flies in the face of custom and expectations but, more importantly, signals that he is hiding something. It takes no imagination at all to think that he has massive foreign investments, financial losses, few or no contributions to charities, tax manipulations and dodges that we peons have never even heard of, and/or far less personal wealth than he’d like us to think.
And if that weren’t reason enough, Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway asserted in January:
“We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care. They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: Most Americans are — are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like.”
I hope there’s a massive turnout tomorrow if only to prove her wrong. I think, or hope, that people do care. A lot. But regardless of the turnout, I’ve no doubt Trump will blow it off as just a few hundred paid agitators or something similar.
And after that, there will be another flat refusal to release any tax returns. Personally I don’t think a MOAB could pry that information out of him.

April 16, 2017: Sure enough, first thing this morning Trump tweeted “Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies.”
I didn’t vote for either Trump or Hillary and I don’t know the value of knowing either ones tax information. So long as they didn’t break any laws, what’s the point?
Oh, I dunno, maybe to see how or if they manipulated the system and whether or not they lied to us about it. Maybe to see them be as honest, open, and forthcoming as their predecessors. There’s at least an appearance of impropriety when people hide things.
A MOAB might not, but I understand the Russians have something even better, or worse, depending on who’s side you are on.
It’s the FAOB, the Father, and at more than twice the size and designed to blow before reaching the ground, second only to a nuclear bomb, but without the radioactive fallout, it’s a monster.
The way that person in the Oval office is going, it’s on the cards that some US citizens might just be in line to experience them, first hand.
Always the innocent that suffers, still Putin might decide to drop them on GOP strongholds.
The Oval Office occupant would not know how to lie straight in bed!
I don’t trust a word from Trump. Not one.
Agent Orange uses the excuse that his returns are under audit, which is pretty good since there is a law that the President’s and the Vice President’s returns are automatically audited every year. Except that being under audit does not legally preclude release. Nor is there any reason he can’t release prior years’ returns, unless of course he’s hiding the truth for a reason, as we suspect. I hope there’s a huge turnout for the Tax March.
It’s been explained repeatedly that there’s no valid legal reason for him to withhold the information. He’s a public figure and can’t even claim right to privacy. I’m convinced he’s hiding a lot of dirty laundry.
I agree with your post, but that is how the 1% is, they have all the power, it is very sad tho.
Money is power. What the 1% doesn’t already have, they can buy. Even elections, thanks to the Citizens United decision.
You are right, I agree
