A timely reminder

  1. Hope this is not the situation at parades tomorrow – given the focus on patriotism & flag etiquette from the various college & pro athletes. Standing for the flag as it passes was one of my earliest lessons. I belong to NARFE (nat’l assoc of active & retired fed employees) and meetings always open with standing to face the flag, a moment of silence, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Too– last week, Trisha Yearwood sang the Anthem acapella in Nashville for the Predators -hockey- game; is on youtube & worth a listen, as she sang it without embellishment. Now if only TRR could open….

    1. Flag etiquette was one of my earliest lessons too. A flag in every classroom. Pledge of Allegiance to start the day. And I learned it all before “under God” was added to the pledge (I’ve never liked the change and don’t say the added words). We learned about raising and lowering the flag, never letting it touch the ground, how to fold it, etc. I don’t know what, if anything, kids are taught today.

Trisha did a great job with a notoriously difficult song. (I tend to think of the modern embellishments as somehow disrespecful).

Yep, TRR’s gonna be late this year.

... and that's my two cents
