I am not, it seems, the only gaming grandma on the internet. Today, quite by accident, I came across Shirley Curry of Rocky Mount, VA. If the information on her YouTube channel is up to date, she’s 81 years old. And yes, she runs her own YouTube channel devoted to — what else — her playing of Skyrim, one of my all-time favorite video games.
I’m impressed. Sure, I play video games. Lots of them, as I’ve noted in the past. But do I take the time to record my play, narrate it, and upload it to a YouTube channel? Frankly, doing so never crossed my mind. The closest I’ve come is to occasionally record a 30-second clip of some noteworthy occurrence to share with my son and grandson. It never occurred to me that anyone would want to watch a grandmother’s gaming. So I tip my hat to Shirley, who has 238,599 subscribers and 6,531,633 views.
This post was going to be a brief update on my gaming — for those very few readers who care — but Shirley got me off track for a minute. So, to continue, since my last post on gaming I’ve played and beaten Rise of the Tomb Raider, Far Cry Primal (probably my favorite; I really hated to see it end), and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. I’ve also played many, many hours of Destiny, either solo or with my son and grandson, and we’re all looking forward to the release of Destiny 2 later this year. I put a good amount of time into Battlefield 1 (got to level 30ish as I recall) before drifting away, and currently I’m more than halfway through Dishonored 2.
But you won’t find any evidence of my gaming on YouTube. I cede that ground to Shirley.
I think you meant 81 years young PT.
Yes, of course. That was a slip on my part.
Yes! Righto! 🙂
Your title gave me such a chuckle.
Always impressed by your determination and skill with the games
Have never bragged about my skill because it’s a given I won’t have the reflexes of younger players. But I can overcome a lot with patience, determination, and smart play. (However, I rarely reveal to other players than I’m female, much less a grandmother. There’s a lot of sexism and ageism in multiplayer games.)
