Rally Cat, best story of the week

Rally Cat was my favorite story this week. Note the score as the video begins. The St. Louis Cardinals trail the Kansas City Royals by one run. And then a stray feline wandered on to the field.

The game continued after the wayward kitty was corraled. And Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina promptly blasted a game-winning grand slam. Instantly, Rally Cat entered the annals of Cardinal baseball lore.

RC was released (hastily dropped?) under the stadium so that grounds crew employee Lucas Hackmann could seek first aid for a badly bitten, bleeding finger and scratched hand. And after being claimed briefly by a woman who caught him, RC disappeared.

The Cardinals launched a search for Rally Cat and a few days later he was found in a downtown St. Louis park by members of the St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach. Safe at last, he awaits adoption.

Meanwhile, the grateful Cardinals have announced Rally Cat Appreciation Day on Sunday, Sept. 10. Fans who buy a “Theme Ticket” will get a Rally Cat shirt, and some of the ticket sales will go to Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation and local animal shelters, per the Cardinals. La Russa is the Cardinals manager.
