Two weeks ago, Dictionary.com announced that its Word of the Year was complicit. Today another dictionary, Merriam-Webster, announced its Word of the Year: feminism.
As with complicit, the selection of feminism was based on the number of people who looked up the word on the dictionary’s website. There was a 70% increase in 2017 vs. 2016. Much of the interest spiked during the massive women’s demonstrations in January. Another spike occurred in February when Kellyanne Conway, advisor to the President, explained why she doesn’t like the word. And as allegations of sexual misconduct have surged in the last few months, so has interest in the word feminism.
A cynic might say the dictionary websites have figured out a way to generate publicity for themselves while at the same time commenting on some of the most hotly discussed issues in our society … in which case, some might say I’m complicit.

One of my all-time favorite songs. When Helen Reddy released it in 1971, she instantly became my idol. I went around the house singing it at the top of my lungs (and in the car, too). To me it sounded like a triumphant marching song. Little did I realize how much farther women still had to go.
Helen Reddy is an Australian, both she and her eldest sister, Toni Lamond were good singers, I don’t think Toni was known overseas.
They were daughters of vaudevillian parents.
Toni is 10 years older and still alive and kicking at age 85 and is an Australian living legend.
Helen is back home in Australia living in retirement somewhere in Sydney 😀
Shame y’all missed out on Toni, she didn’t have Helen distinctive voice but she was a great trouper.

Didn’t know about Toni, but Helen was one of my favorites back in the day.
Toni did spend a few years performer in LA. I believe, an honest performer without Helen charisma.
