This was the scene on the Estes Park, Colo., golf course today, but I don’t see many golfers. Apparently playing through was not an option.
Fall is the rutting season for elk, and every year they gather like this in and around Estes Park. It’s a big tourist draw. But for golfers … not so much.
Meanwhile, 75 miles to the south in Evergreen, Colo., a couple of bulls decided to settle their differences in the middle of town. You can hear the bugling and clash of antlers:
How great
I know some people that have a condo there that backs onto this golf course. Their gorgeous view may or may not include elk, depending entirely on the elk’s whim. But the golf course and mountains are always there.
The lady across the street had an excellent vantage point. A while back, I was in Estes Park and the Elk were everywhere! I don’t recall it being this time of year. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t because we had been staying in a cabin and I don’t do cold weather. I suppose they feel safe since they’re protected.
They’ve gotten very used to crowds of humans gawking at them. Besides, with antlers like those bulls have, who’d want to mess with them? And they are a big draw in Estes, although they may be a nuisance to residents.
Wouldn’t you love to have a balcony with the view that woman has?
I’m surprised the elks don’t lock horns more, then are unable to disengage. Quite the entertainment for viewers!
It does look like there would be quite a tangle. Did you notice the bull in the last video that had one missing antler? I wonder how that happened.
I’m with the elk; let the ball hitters go play somewhere else
Well, it is a public golf course and the elk do have an entire national park on the other side of town …
Yes but have they been told?
Do they understand what they’ve been told? 😈
I don’t know. You’d have to ask them.
I don’t know if I’d be out on my balcony taking pictures of the elks fighting in my front yard…unless I knew for SURE that they can’t jump very high! Great post!
She’s quite safe up there … and I’m SO envious!
Wouldn’t that be amazing to witness so closely?
Yep. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens fairly often, with the elk used to wandering through town. Did you notice the two cyclists who went zipping by in the background? They didn’t even slow down.
NO!! This I’ve got to see!
Just another day int the ‘burbs…LOL! Unbelievable.
