Yep. Surprise. I’m getting (even more) confused … by all the Democrats running for president in 2020. I’ve already lost track of how many there are. And most of them are relatively unknown to me. I might have heard their names, but their positions on issues and where they’re from … I couldn’t tell you offhand. I know Bernie Sanders is the latest to join the fray, again, and further muddy the waters. As for the guy in the cartoon — Buttigieg — I saw him on late night last week, but I’ve already forgotten how to pronounce his name or where he’s from. About all I recall is that he looked relatively young and sounded rational.
We haven’t heard from Joe Biden yet. He was my early favorite but I worry now about his age vs all those younger candidates. And I’m afraid Liz Warren has hamstrung herself with that Native American thing. There are two here in Colorado who might jump in — former governor Hickenlooper and current Sen. Michael Bennet (that one “t” always looks wrong to me, but hey, it’s his name). I’d be happy with either but doubt either has a chance.
And then there’s whozit, the billionaire, who wants to run as an independent. Just what we need to beat Trump, another egotistical billionaire with zero experience in government. Even worse, he thinks he can win as an independent, and obviously doesn’t care that he’ll be splitting the Democratic vote.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but this many candidates makes me nervous. They’ll sort themselves out eventually, and the earlier the better, but right now I’m really concerned. Dems need to be strong and unified. But it seems to me they are splintering more and more and moving too far left. (For those who want labels, I’m an unaffiliated centrist.)
Frankly, I’m afraid the Dems are beginning to look like this:
… and I sure don’t want another clown in the White House.
