Jussie Smollett. I know that name now, but until recently I’d never heard of him. And I’d never watched nor wanted to watch “Empire.” (Still don’t.)
But in the last week it’s become impossible not to know the man’s name and the idiotic stunt he pulled to gain attention and, he hoped, a higher salary.
Well, he doesn’t have to worry about that salary anymore because it’s gone now (he was cut from the show today). Along with any future as an actor. Flipping burgers, maybe. Or delivering pizza. But not the recognition and income that serious actors earn.
I was suspicious from the beginning because he reported to the hospital with a noose still around his neck. What black man wouldn’t rip that hideous thing off the moment his hands were free? Nuts. Just nuts. One source reported he even had a sandwich in his hand when he got to the hospital. I suppose when you make only $65,000-$100,000 per episode, every bite of food is precious.
But what a huge disservice he’s done to the LGBTQ and black communities. What a huge disservice to any future victim of a real hate crime.
Shame on you, Jussie Smollett. Shame, shame, shame.
He will now sink into an oblivion of his own making

My sentiments exactly – and probably the most of the country. Don’t get me wrong here, I don’t condone this behavior at all, but if you’re going to tell such a big whopper, you better be prepared to stick by that lie for the rest of your life. Like our “illustrious” king-of-the-lies trump.
Both tell ridiculous, poorly contrived whoppers. Colbert even noted last night, if you’re going to fake a racist hate crime against yourself, and you’re black, at least be smart enough to hire white guys to beat you up. He hired two black friends.
When it was first reported, I was wondering why he was outside at 2 am in the midst of the polar vortex in Chicago.
Ha, good question. I really didn’t give much thought to where it happened or what the weather was there. He could have died of hypothermia if his “attackers” hadn’t gotten to him first.

Idiot – but what he has witnessed that works: victimhood. Sad about the (small fortune) amount of money you make? Become a victim – get social media/celebs wailing – and bingo – you’re in the money. Glad it finally unraveled – just too many red flags all along, but it seemed he’d get away with it with all applauding his “bravery in the face of adversity.”
He actually created a hate crime, enraged racial tension – and as you say damaged REAL victims who will now have a much more difficult time being believed. Idiot is too kind a word.
