Twenty-five years ago Timothy McVeigh’s bomb ripped the front off the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 innocent men, women, and children. Oklahoma City was and always will be my hometown even though I now live elsewhere, and I took the bombing very personally.
I will never forget this day
Nor I. It was the end of innocence for America’s heartland.
it truly was
Thank you for remembering. It’s good to see how that awful tragedy has passed, and the people affected directly have moved on in their lives…but that they won’t forget. An awful event.
There’s no way to forget an event like this, especially when it actually shook the building I was in — five miles away!
Echoing the others, thank you for acknowledging the anniversary date. Our building in KC was an alternate target. All there continue to take threats seriously, and refuse to forget those who perished in the blast, as well as those who ran into the wreckage to rescue all they could. Then, too, the first responders were phenomenal in their courage and dedication during those hours turned into days. All who have the opportunity should stop at the National Memorial. Seeing the empty chairs, the reflecting pool, and The Survivor Tree is both sobering and encouraging. And the visitor center is well done and worth visiting.
I moved away from OKC before the memorial was finished and have not been able to visit it. I feel like I have been though, because of all I’ve read about it and what I know of the area.
I knew you’d remember.
That small child in arms. Those chairs.
Even now all you can do is stare silently and wonder why a human being could do this to others
(It was tied closely to Waco compound anniversary here – wish they wouldn’t do that combo thing. Don’t dilute/attempt to explain the horror)
(Hope you and your realm are doing well – warmer weather coming your way I understand)
All’s well here. Or at least as well as it can be under the circumstances. Spring is doing it’s best, but it’s been start and stop so far.
