You’ve seen it by now — video of the diner in Castle Rock, Colorado, that opened on Mother’s Day with standing-room-only crowds. Well, now you see it, now you don’t.
The opening of the C & C Breakfast & Korean Kitchen was in direct violation of Governor Jared Polis’s “safer at home” orders and today he suspended their license indefinitely — or for at least 30 days.
“I expected it to be busy. I never expected this,” owner April Arellano said. “I’m so happy so many people came out to support the Constitution and stand up for what is right. We did our time. We did our two weeks. We did more than two weeks…and we were failing. We had to do something.”
The governor thought otherwise. Under his orders, Colorado restaurants are limited to delivery and pickup service until May 31.

He really had no choice. The owner was blatantly flouting his orders. If he let her get away with it, restaurants all over the state would start reopening.

What concerns me is the people! They really don’t understand the dynamics of a pandemic, do they? We really should start teaching science in schools again. A little education would prove helpful in times like these.
One has to assume they don’t understand or they wouldn’t willingly put themselves in harm’s way. But as for endangering others, I’m not sure people of this mentality really care about others.
On the other hand, I’m not without sympathy for business owners who are losing their businesses or working people who’ve lost their jobs. Anger, frustration, despair, desperation. Rent due. Kids to feed. Etc. I can’t begin to imagine.
And in the second wave, the stupid will die first.
Do we have to wait that long?
