Who can forget his confirmation hearings: Kavanaugh ‘belligerent and aggressive’ when drunk … or sober.
And this week, he proffered his not-so-carefully-researched official Supreme Court opinion on counting election ballots: Brett Kavanaugh Forced To Correct Supreme Court Opinion After Vermont Calls Out False Info.
In brief, he cited Vermont as a state that had not made changes in its election rules to accommodate the late receipt of mail-in ballots, when in fact in had.
He said those states with Election Day deadlines “want to avoid the chaos and suspicions of impropriety that can ensue if thousands of absentee ballots flow in after election day and potentially flip the results of an election.” Justice Elena Kagan pointed out in her dissenting opinion that “there are no results to ‘flip’ until all valid votes are counted.”
Rather conveniently, Kavanaugh was trying to bolster Pres. Trump’s belief that all votes should be counted no later than the evening of Election Day.
(Story updated Oct. 31 to include relevant details of Kavanaugh’s opinion.)
I just cannot wait until Nov 4. And, hopefully, January 20. If trump loses, his lame duck period is going to be horrible. Terrifies me.
Deservedly so. And it will be Jan. 3 before any new senators are sworn in. The specter of a rejected, lame-duck Trump, possibly supported by rejected Republican senators, is the stuff of nightmares. Not to mention all the Trump supporters across the country, many of whom have already demonstrated their propensity for, shall we say, “unacceptable” behavior.
Will we have to destroy the country in order to save it?
Tonight’s news showed downtown Denver businesses boarding up in anticipation of violence on Election Night. But then, after all the violence and destruction this summer, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. In contrast, some businesses said they aren’t boarding up for fear of inciting violence.
