Almost lost in coverage of the invasion of the US Capitol on January 6 was the news that Georgia had just elected two new Democratic US senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, who won their respective races by the narrowest of margins. Their victories in an historically red state bring the US Senate to a 50/50 split between Democrats and Republicans, where Democratic Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will have the deciding vote in case of ties. With the Republican stranglehold on the Senate broken, it’s possible, just possible, that Congressional gridlock has ended and the nation’s business will again be conducted.
In any case, congratulations to Sen. Jon Ossoff, Sen. Raphael Warnock, and the State of Georgia.
Yay! So happy about this.
I was thrilled. Went to bed that night biting my nails about the outcome. Then came the attack on the Capitol, and I had to dig to even find the results of the election. Dare we hope some normalcy will be returning to Washington?
I do hope! Every day
Fingers crossed.

I wish their victories had gotten the press coverage they deserved.
