To Republican Senators in Washington:
The whole world knows Donald Trump was guilty of insurrection when he organized his mob of followers, whipped them into a frenzy, and set them loose on the US Capitol on January 6. The whole world saw the results of his months of planning.
His impeachment for that crime began in the House of Representatives, and it is now up to the Senate to finish the process with a conviction and a bar to future candidacies. Your vote to convict does not start a new, unconstitutional action against a private citizen; it completes a process already begun against a US President. His change of address does not exonerate him and neither should you.
Do your jobs, uphold your oath* to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and convict the man who instigated the riot. The rioters themselves are being arrested and held accountable; the man who organized them and sent them to the Capitol is no less accountable.
If you do not convict him, you will have exonerated him. You will have consented to similar actions from future presidents. You will have left him free to continue fomenting anger and hate. You will have made clear your willingness to condone and support insurrection.

Sadly the Republican Party lacks honor and people with moral values..how hard is it for 17 people to have courage. I think the accused has a cabinet of dirt on them, so they are afraid. How can you praise a man for saving you and slap him in the face by allowing criminal T to go free…hmm…Alas, is there no honor among thieves?
If he is not convicted, any shred of democratic authority goes out the door with foreign countries, respect is lost. If you cannot covict what is in full glaring sight – it is possible to be above the law. The folks held doing his bidding will have grounds to be set free in all fairness – convict 1 and all..set the precedent or open doors of anarchy…

That’s it exactly. Let him walk away unpunished from the chaos he created and we’ll have established the precedent that the president is above the law. He always thought that anyway. Now the Senate seems ready to prove he was right. Worse, he could be back again in four years.
If he is not convicted, all future presidents may be tempted to use a January “Get Out Of Jail” card, a dangerous prospect.
It is indeed. And frightening that in the face of overwhelming evidence, Republicans seem ready to absolve him.
