How could it get any worse, I wondered. Uvalde, Texas, police officers waited more than an hour to take down a gunman who was killing Robb Elementary school children. The children’s bodies were so mutilated by the AR-15 rounds that many of them couldn’t be identified except through DNA matching and in one case, distinctive green sneakers. Nineteen fourth graders and two teachers died.
But today it did get worse. Today what we’d suspected and feared was confirmed:
More than a dozen students remained alive for over an hour before officers entered their classrooms. The commander feared a risk to officers’ lives, new documents show. From the New York Times
And sure enough, not one of those “brave” police officers was seriously injured. Children lay terrified, bleeding, and dying while those officers waited for shields to arrive so they would have additional protection before finally rushing the shooter.
I am enraged all over again. I didn’t think it possible but I am.
