Chief Twit takes over

  1. …given his history with Tesla, I have no doubt that, in a year or two, Elon will claim he invented not only Twitter, but the WWW. He’s going to have to contend with new laws in the EU, Australia, and soon in Canada, regarding Hate Speech, “material promoting terrorism, child sexual abuse and commercial scams”. It’s not going to be easy being a “Free Speech Absolutist” when he’s running an internationally-used platform.

  2. Musk is brilliant at Space X and Tesla electric cars but that doesn’t make him brilliant at everything. Alas, he is only the latest “smart” guy to let it all go to his head. Reminds me of Linus Pauling, the double-Nobelist in chemistry who in the ’70’s became an acolyte for Vitamin C as a cure for almost everything that ails you. Besides, the basic concept of Twitter is repugnant, at least to me. Why should we value impulsive brain-farts from celebrities? I guess it’s just human nature.

    1. Originally, Twitter seemed kind of innocent and fun. Chat with friends, etc. But once (some) people realized that the anonymity allowed them free rein to say anything they wanted to anyone, it became a jungle.

  3. I use Twitter all the time and not at all happy about Musk taking it over. We’ll see what happens, but it will become a free-for-all. Just waiting for him to reinstate trump’s account. Although I have a feeling that trump will be in for a big surprise to see just how many people hate him. He’s been sheltered in his failing Truth Social website, only receiving positive, supportive comments/replies. I don’t think he realizes just how many people out there would love to see him just go away.

    1. I only auto-post to Twitter. Are there actually people on there posting anti-T**** stuff? That’s good to know. I’ve been feeling very outnumbered lately. As for Musk, I don’t expect anything good to come of his purchase. He seems extraordinarily naive about what could happen if he allows unrestricted free speech.
