Well, it’s official. Elon Musk has purchased and taken control of internet giant Twitter. He immediately fired the top executive and promises to let go some 75% of current employees. He also changed his Twitter handle to “Chief Twit.” How very appropriate.
I expect nothing good to come of this. His talk of more free and open access for all just means more trolls, more bots, more disinformation and rumors, more of everything already infesting and poisoning the internet. And he says he’ll let T**** back on the platform. Why? So the former insurrectionist-in-chief can foment another January 6?
I’m getting seriously tired of and concerned about very wealthy but emotionally immature “adults” having their way with our government, our laws, our economy, our democracy!
And can it be long before the Chief Twit decides he should also be president? After all, it’s happened before.
I’ll be deleting my twitter account today.
I suspect you won’t be alone in doing that. I think the Chief Twit really doesn’t comprehend how the internet works or what it’s become.
Now I wish I had a Twitter account so I could close it.
LOL.
You forgot to mention the almost incredibly gigantic egos they have ..
They aren’t “almost” incredibly gigantic. They are truly so, and then some. I wonder which came first, the money or the egos?
I have one my daughter signed me up for, but don’t use. hopefully he’ll take the whole company down
The way things have been going, the world would probably be better off without Twitter.
agree
…given his history with Tesla, I have no doubt that, in a year or two, Elon will claim he invented not only Twitter, but the WWW. He’s going to have to contend with new laws in the EU, Australia, and soon in Canada, regarding Hate Speech, “material promoting terrorism, child sexual abuse and commercial scams”. It’s not going to be easy being a “Free Speech Absolutist” when he’s running an internationally-used platform.

Given what’s happened in the US in recent years, being a “free speech absolutist” now sounds insane. It can only worsen the situation. Kudos to the EU for doing what the US should be doing.
“EU Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager added that ‘with today’s agreement we ensure that platforms are held accountable for the risks their services can pose to society and citizens.'”
It’s about time!
Musk is brilliant at Space X and Tesla electric cars but that doesn’t make him brilliant at everything. Alas, he is only the latest “smart” guy to let it all go to his head. Reminds me of Linus Pauling, the double-Nobelist in chemistry who in the ’70’s became an acolyte for Vitamin C as a cure for almost everything that ails you. Besides, the basic concept of Twitter is repugnant, at least to me. Why should we value impulsive brain-farts from celebrities? I guess it’s just human nature.
Originally, Twitter seemed kind of innocent and fun. Chat with friends, etc. But once (some) people realized that the anonymity allowed them free rein to say anything they wanted to anyone, it became a jungle.
I use Twitter all the time and not at all happy about Musk taking it over. We’ll see what happens, but it will become a free-for-all. Just waiting for him to reinstate trump’s account. Although I have a feeling that trump will be in for a big surprise to see just how many people hate him. He’s been sheltered in his failing Truth Social website, only receiving positive, supportive comments/replies. I don’t think he realizes just how many people out there would love to see him just go away.
I only auto-post to Twitter. Are there actually people on there posting anti-T**** stuff? That’s good to know. I’ve been feeling very outnumbered lately. As for Musk, I don’t expect anything good to come of his purchase. He seems extraordinarily naive about what could happen if he allows unrestricted free speech.
