Education is a cross I must bear

A recent TV commercial for Cancer Treatment Centers of America is making me cringe and is killing CTCA’s credibility. With me, anyway. The man talking about his treatment speaks of “prosate” cancer. No, no, no! It’s prostate. There’s another “t” in there. You’d think an institution specializing in cancer would, at the very least, include the correct name of the disease. Their next commercial will probably feature a woman talking about her “masectomy.” Every time I hear that I have to bite my tongue. It’s mastectomy. Always has been; always will be. Come on, people. It’s not like you’re trying to pronounce esthesioneuroblastoma.  … Comments »

Great viewing on the hummingbird nest cam

Heads up to hummingbird fans: One of Phoebe’s two eggs hatched yesterday. The second could hatch any time. If you aren’t familiar with the hummingbird nest cam, you must check it out. Make sure your sound is on. And be prepared for lots of friendly chat, too. Hummers are about 3″ long, their eggs are the size of Tic Tacs, and the nest is about the size of a golf ball. I’ve noted in the past that one of the best blogs focusing on seniors/retirees is Time Goes By by Ronni Bennett. I may not have mentioned, and you may not have noticed, her lengthy blog roll of writing by individuals 50 years of age and older.
