Rocky Mountain National Park announced yesterday, May 3, that Trail Ridge Road is now open up to Rainbow Curve. It is still closed between Rainbow and the Colorado River Trailhead on the west side. Weather permitting, the entire road will open May 27th. For current road status call 970-586-1222 for a recorded message.
Don’t think I can make the opening 🙁
Aw, you’ll be missed! 🙂
I was wondering what the road conditions were. What a spring (now we can do without any mountain floods!)
Rainbow Curve is usually as far as I go. I go up that far, enjoy the view for a while, maybe eat a lunch I’ve brought, and go back down. I promise, if they ask me, that I won’t allow any floods.
There used to be an old old grand lodge on the downside to Grand Lake (but before you got there) Can’t remember the name, but think I’ll poke around and see if it’s still there. Looked like one of those old film sets – and so elegant to us as kids (Far too expensive for us to stay there those summers)
I’ve been all the way over to Grand Lake only about twice in my life. Usually turn around at the Visitor Center, if not before.
Lots of mosquitoes on the other side – fewer trails. Big lakes though. Yep visitor center is a good look-see spot and then turn around
Never thought the west side was as pretty. I like the ruggedness visible and accessible on this side.
