Lest anyone think otherwise, I’m still an avid video gamer, even at 76 and change. I spent the entire summer engrossed in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. It’s basically a role-playing game set in ancient Greece. The game gives you the option of playing as Alexios or as his sister Kassandra. I opted for Kassandra and finished the main storyline. There was a lot of material added later (DLC, downloadable content) and I played through quite a bit of it while waiting for the release of Borderlands 3 about a month ago.
So now I’m deep into BL3 and really enjoying it. It’s been many years since BL2, the last iteration I played, and it’s fun being back in it. I confess, however, that I now sometimes resort to Easy mode instead of Normal. Some of those bosses are just beyond my aging reflexes. (And, rarely, if all else fails, rather than just give up on a game that I paid good money for, I ask my grandson to play me through a boss fight that proved impossible for me. That’s happened maybe twice this year, and only after I’d failed dozens of times. It’s a matter of personal pride to get through it by myself. I can’t say I beat a game if someone helped me.)
and. here’s to you, game strong!
Thanks. This has been my favorite form of entertainment for about 20 years. Hope my eyes and fingers hold out for quite a bit longer.
wow, 76 yo |(^^,)?
Yep, and I just beat Borderlands 3 Friday night (admittedly I was on “Easier” mode for the last boss fight). Haven’t decided yet whether to try playing through on TVHM mode.
I think it’s really cool that you engulfed in a new media unlike a large majority of people in your age group. Have you tried The Outer Worlds? It’s a very similar game to Borderlands I don’t know what platform you play on, but if you’re playing on Xbox you can play it on Gamepass as well as a bunch of other games for a few dollars every month.
I played The Outer Worlds for a little while after finishing Borderlands 3 (before any DLCs). Then somehow ended up getting back into Destiny 2 when Shadowkeep came out. I hadn’t played it for about a year and got sucked back in when I took a look at my characters and all their gear, etc. I love that game! Yes, I’m on Xbox, but I let Game Pass go when I got back into Destiny. I can always re-join if I decide to go back to Outer Worlds.

There never will be an age limit to gaming of any kind. My dad still loves watching my play at times even though he can’t play as often due to work, especially racing games. I still want to get Borderlands 3 but only after the DLC comes packaged with it.
I’ve been back into Destiny 2 for a month or more and really enjoying it. I left it for about a year, but it sure looked good when I went back. I liked BL3 but had finished the main game and was starting to look for something else. I learn a lot about Destiny by watching my grandson play. Plus he can explain some of the fine points that I might not understand.
