What a shame

Readers may remember back in November I posted a video from the Jimmy Kimmel show. It was a particularly funny Kimmel Kartoon, where the voices from a heated GOP debate were dubbed in over a Charlie Brown thanksgiving cartoon. It was widely circulated and widely enjoyed. But apparently not by everyone. Now it seems wherever … Continue reading »

I’ve become impatient and intolerant

I wish I could send a letter to every TV anchor and reporter telling them that during interviews or panel discussions, when they or their guests interrupt or talk over each other or start arguing or getting disagreeable, I change the channel. I suspect I used up my life’s quota of tolerance at the office … Continue reading »

Kyle Dyer returns to work tomorrow

Kyle Dyer, the KUSA reporter who was bitten in the face by a dog on February 8, is returning to her on-air post tomorrow. We in Denver are delighted to have her back. She has been through a long ordeal, healing from both the dog bite and hip surgery — and is still smiling! Welcome … Continue reading »

Cafferty renews our relationship

Jack Cafferty’s first question on CNN this afternoon was “Is paying less tuition for a three-year college degree a good idea?” As usual, it was preceded by a thoughtful little commentary from Cafferty. My reply was: If a student goes to summer school and completes four years of course work in three years, fine. But … Continue reading »

Cartier airs glitzy 3.5 minute commercial

(Updated March 11 at 3:00 pm) Holy commercial, Batman! I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it. And I didn’t believe it while I was watching it. A Cartier commercial that ran 3.5 minutes. Too long by half, in my opinion. Or maybe I’ve just developed an extremely short attention span. The appropriately … Continue reading »

As seen on TV

Once again I’m probably the last to know. This time it’s websites that rate and review all those “As Seen on TV” products that I’ve always assumed are probably cheap junk and scams. And often the companies make their profit not on the cheap product but on inflated shipping charges, difficult returns, or misrepresented free … Continue reading »

She has concluded, she says, that “everything is going to be OK.” She also did an interview with the Denver Post, in which she revealed that on top of everything else, she is having hip replacement surgery in … Continue reading »

She has 20 new ones, all on the inside of her mouth, and can now talk and eat normally. The dog, Max, was … Continue reading »

Denver dog owner interviewed after on-air dog bite

For those still following the story, Denver television station KDVR aired an interview yesterday with Michael Robinson, owner of Max, the dog that bit KUSA anchor Kyle Dyer. It questions the 10-day quarantine of the dog at the Denver Animal Shelter even though Robinson has produced proof that the dog has a current rabies vaccination. … Continue reading »

Update on dog bite victim Kyle Dyer

Over the weekend, Kyle Dyer, the KUSA TV anchor who was bitten in the face by a dog last week, described the details of her reconstructive surgery. “After a 4 hour surgery, I have 70 stitches in my upper lip, lower lip and nose,” Dyer reportedly wrote on her Facebook page.  “I am unable to … Continue reading »

Kyle Dyer, the television anchor for Denver’s Channel 9, who was bitten in the face by a dog yesterday, was released from the hospital this afternoon. The station reports she is not talking due to her injuries, but is busily communicating with her iPad. The dog, named Gladiator Maximus (Max) and his owner, Michael Robinson, … Continue reading »

Denver’s Channel 9 explains dog bite incident

Late this afternoon, Denver’s Channel 9 News aired an update on anchor Kyle Dyer’s dog bite injury suffered during an interview this morning. Dyer is in “fair” condition in a local hospital following reconstructive surgery to repair her injured lip. For more on yesterday’s dog rescue and the follow-up interview-gone-wrong, see the previous post, “Denver: … Continue reading »

No means no

What part of “no” didn’t they understand? For weeks Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) had been saying “no” when asked if he’d run for president. And the media kept interpreting it as “maybe,” “possibly,” and “I might.” (So glad I never dated one of those guys.) Then finally, Christie called a press conference for a big … Continue reading »

Whee! A Democratic ‘debate’ tonight

Tonight on MSNBC, “The Great Democratic Debate.” Oh puh-LEEZE. It’s not a “debate” when a bunch of Democrats sit around and discuss the best approach for Pres. Obama to take in his re-election campaign. Should he lean hard left and curry favor with his base? Or should he stay moderate and appeal to the middle, … Continue reading »

Goodbye, Andy Rooney

Andy Rooney has announced he is stepping down from regular appearances on CBS’s “60 Minutes.” I’m relieved. He seems a nice enough guy, but I was beyond tired of his curmudgeonly observations at the end of each week’s show. I hope before I do something similar, someone who loves me will take me gently by … Continue reading »

AARP hatin’ on shrimp treadmills

Recently the AARP has been running an ad warning seniors that there are plans afoot to cut Medicare “and even Social Security” benefits. It’s a misleading message at the very least and just one more reason I decided not to renew my membership this year. The 30-second spot criticizes certain federally funded projects such as … Continue reading »

Ditzy blonde on Fox News

Dana Perino today on Fox News: “Why do we allow him (Iranian Pres. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) to come here anyway? I’m so over him.” This woman was a White House press secretary and she doesn’t know the U.N. is considered international territory? It isn’t “we” who allow Ahmadinejad to come, but the U.N.

GOP debate tonight adds Gary Johnson

Tonight at 9 pm ET, Fox News will host a debate for the 2012 Republican presidential candidates in Orlando, Fla. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson will join the previous eight participants, guaranteeing an even more crowded stage and more overlooked answers from all the candidates. Johnson’s inclusion/exclusion from the debates has been controversial.

Cafferty and me — we’ve got a thing goin’ on

On CNN today, Jack Cafferty’s question of the hour: “Rick Perry says he can’t be bought for $5,000. How much will this comment haunt him?” My response: “I’ll give him $5,001 to drop out of the race.” Jack liked it. He read it on the air as his closing remark.

Public reacts to Fort Collins school flag incident

Someone hung an American flag in a Fort Collins, Colo., elementary school, someone took a picture showing the Saudi Arabian flag hanging higher than the American flag, and someone posted it on an anonymous blog, GreeleyReport.com. Now it seems a lot of people are angry, shocked, and outraged about it. They’ve flocked to the website … Continue reading »
