I have failed utterly to get Vodpod to work and embed this video. If I ever succeed, it will be added. However, I promise if you care anything at all about football and football uniforms (the design thereof), you’ll find the take by Mo Rocca very entertaining. You can read the story or watch the video — same information in both. But you’ll want the visuals in the video.
I can’t help wondering how the schools afford all those different uniforms, or more accurately, I’m appalled that they do. Still, it’s a fun story. After all, we all want our team to look great on the field, don’t we.
And to think I used to get upset over something as trivial as whether the Oklahoma Sooners’ helmets were white or crimson …
Our colleges and universities are becoming just as corporate as…well… corporations. I still much prefer college sports over professional any day, but it’s just not the same anymore.
I grew up awash in “Big 8” sports. But as you said, it’s just not the same anymore. I still love sports but most of the old team allegiances, both college and pro, have disappeared. Too many changes in both my life and theirs.
I have been noticing some changes in Helmets, they look more like Storm Troopers from Star Wars. LOL Not to forget the cost of unifroms and shoes WOW even in High School. My G-dau is an Basketball Athlete and the cost of shoes is outrageous!
I don’t know how College affords this but it has become ridiculus. I love Basketball although I am discouraged by recent events of the Pros. Football, I still have my teams I support…but it has changed so much I am not feeling it like.
😉
The story doesn’t note, and should, that the Oregon Ducks are in the same city as Nike’s headquarters and therefore get most of those different uniforms for free. But I would certainly think the cost would or should be prohibitive for most college teams.
I love the idea of dressing them as comic book superheroes, though. Soon their underpants will be on the outside!
