Vagina sculpture traps American exchange student

He only wanted a funny picture. A picture of himself emerging from a giant vagina sculpture. Adolescent humor.

Well, it was humorous all right. But he wasn’t the one laughing. Seems the 20-year-old American exchange student managed to get stuck in the sculpture last Friday and the fire department — 22 responders in all — had to be called to free him.

The 2001 sculpture, titled Chacán-Pi (Making Love) was created by Peruvian artist Fernando de la Jara. It stands outside Tübingen (Germany) University’s Institute for Microbiology and Virology. The 32-ton artwork is red Veronese marble and according to the artist, signifies “the gateway to the world.” It is valued at almost $200,000.

According to some reports, the student was responding to a dare by his (now former?) friend, Erick Guzman, who took a picture and then called for help.

The unidentified student was “delivered” after some 30 minutes of labor. Only his dignity was injured.

  1. A likely candidate for the Darwin award?

  2. Reminds me of a nightmare I had once PT. I’ll bet this poor fool will be wishing that was a dream for years to come! O_o

  3. What a delightful way to start the day, this brought a smile to my face which all last all day long (I haven’t had my breakfast or morning cup of tea yet); thanks for the cheer! 🙂

By the bye the the sculpture looks inyeresting 😉

    • Hard not to laugh, even if you feel sorry for the student. He’ll have a hard time living this down.

“Interesting,” eh? I’m guessing that’s one of the more innocuous adjectives used to describe it.

  4. I’m getting ahead of myself my comment shows I posted at June 24,2014 * 3.33 pm MDT (whatever MDT is) which is yesterday I assure you it’s really 07.33, 25th June 2014 🙂

    • That date and time are correct for here in the U.S. (in Denver, CO). MDT is Mountain Daylight Time. You are really going to confuse me talking about it being tomorrow already (even though I know you’re in Australia, right?). Don’t cheat me out of the rest of my Monday! 🙂

  5. That poor kid is never gonna live this down. 😉

  6. Now he has an even funnier story…maybe he’ll be able to laugh and tell it someday. (meanwhile he’ll be thinking everyone is chuckling and staring at him….probably true)

  7. LOL. Anderson Cooper featured this story on his Ridiculist this evening.

  8. Apparently the universal symbol that no man can resist. LOL, where do you get this stuff? :p

    • Usually I trip over it while browsing any one of a number of news websites. Start clicking on interesting articles, links, etc., and there’s no telling where you’ll end up or what you’ll find.

  9. Art, like beauty, is said to repose in the eye (brain?) of the beholder. To me, this sculpture is not only not art but an embarrassing waste of time and energy. If someone were actually willing to pay $200,000 for it, that would only prove to me that some people have more money than sense. IMHO.

    • Yep, it strikes me as a terrible waste of marble. I’d say it’s about $199,999 worth of marble and $1 worth of talent (and that’s probably an over-valuation of the talent). If properly sliced up, it would probably yield some nice countertops …
