    1. Wow, you sure kicked off the memories with this one! I loved the Kingston Trio. Had all their albums at some point . 6 or 7. I was very into folk music. Really made my bones creak to hear them say this song was written in 1950-something. Can it really have been that long ago?

      1. It was 1949, PT, and did you catch the comment about after the end of the song? “Due to our consistent foreign policy, we haven’t had to change the lyrics.” That was more prophetic than he ever knew, eh?

        1. Indeed. I rarely think of the song without noting that most of it is still true. Sad. And I generally think of folk music as a ’60s thing. Pushing it back to the ’50s or even ’40s make me very … old.
