Most of you are probably yawning at the news: The first official trailer for Top Gun 2 was released a few hours ago. And admittedly I only came across the news by accident.
Nevertheless, be it known that Top Gun is one of my all-time favorite movies. Possibly my #1 favorite. And on a very hot day in Denver, it was a treat to find this trailer. Quite literally, the flying gives me goosebumps. Always has. The music gives me goosebumps (just hearing the first note of the theme is enough). Always has. Might even be the best part. And yes, in these two movies, even Tom Cruise gives me goosebumps. Or at least his character does.
It’s been 35 years since the first Top Gun. That’s a long time for fans to wait for a sequel. And it won’t be in theaters until next summer. All I can say is, it better be damned good. It has a lot to live up to.
“Top Gun” was one of my favorites too. Sadly for me Tom Cruise is not anymore but I have my fingers crossed. The music is the best.
Don’t get me wrong. I think Cruise is a jerk in real life. He’s just an essential part of a great movie, or hopefully two.
I wouldn’t miss it for anything!

e.g. Cocky personality undergoes traumatic episode that results in self-doubt and eventually the humbled hero. Boring. Every time.
It’s his cockiness off screen that bugs me. On screen he’s a pretty good action star. I appreciate that he does so much of his own stunt work.
Yeah, I banned watching Cruise movies for many many years. I didn’t like him as a person, especially his Scientology background. But the past few years, I’ve lightened up on it. Unlike the critics, I love “The Mummy.” I just watched the Jack Reacher movies. There’s a few I’ve seen along the years, but I’m not so anti-Cruise as I used to be. He has made some very smart decisions with movies, that’s for sure.
I like action movies, so I’ve seen a lot of his stuff (on tv; I almost never go to the theater). He’s not the only big star whose off-camera behavior is a huge turnoff for me (eg, Crowe, Gibson, Hasselhoff, Baldwin). But a good movie is a good movie.

I’ll have to ask my oldest kiddo if he’s heard this yet. Top Gun has been one of his fav movies since he was a little kiddo. Ha. 🙂
