The Chicago Fire Department captured this video of a black cat jumping from a fifth-story window to escape a fire two days ago. The cat narrowly missed a wall on the way down, but landed on his feet, as all good kitties do, and scampered away, apparently uninjured. We can only hope that he is truly uninjured and finds someone to care for him.
Is it any wonder so many of us love these fascinating creatures? They are full of surprises and amazing abilities. I just hope this little guy is really okay.
It was lucky to land on grass. The smaller the mass of the animal, the more air resistance counterbalances gravity. An ant would be unfazed, even on concrete.
I still worry about possible injuries. Cats hide injury and sickness extremely well, as a survival instinct. I hope this kitty’s owner finds him. Or her.
