There’s a lot to be said about the current Israeli shelling of Gaza, and I’ve said most of it before. To avoid repeating everything, I’ll just refer you to previous posts.

Among the new provocations, however, one item deserves special attention. Following a one-hour advance warning, Israel bombed and destroyed the headquarters of the Associated Press in Gaza. The building housed a number of news organizations, including Al-Jazeera, and dozens of civilian apartments on the upper floors. Its precise coordinates were well known to Israel.

As justification for the attack, the Israeli government claimed the building was being used by Hamas military intelligence. Journalists believe the attack was an attempt to limit reporting of Israeli actions in Gaza.

The world will draw its own conclusions.
