About this logo
How oblivious can one be? I moved to Denver in 2008 or thereabouts, and have been awash in local news ever since. Yet not until recently during a sportscast did I notice an odd spot of black in the logo of the Colorado Avalanche (NHL team). Boy did I feel stupid when my son explained to me that it was a hockey puck! D’oh!
Well, I’m with you – I wouldn’t have thought hockey puck unless someone pointed it out to me.
I think my question to my son was something like “Why is there an odd dark spot in the Avs logo?”
Well, I assumed it was the bottom of the mountain where the avalanche was heading to …
Yep, I can see that.
I don’t see a hockey puck, I see a black smear.
I didn’t see it until I was told what it was. At first I thought it was just an inexplicably dark, maybe shadowed, continuation of the sweep of snow. I do know what a puck looks like, having had one land in my lap at a game years ago. But I’m thinking the designer didn’t do a very good job with the puck in this logo.
