Academy rules on Will Smith

  1. Most of his upcoming projects have been, “paused.” He won’t be making films for a long time. Expect his book to be published in about 2 years (what book? the one he’ll write to explain this).

    1. I agree. I can’t imagine Oscar-hungry producers hiring an Academy pariah. But maybe they’ll bet on the public’s insatiable curiosity about said pariah and his scandal. Or, given his wealth, maybe he’ll produce his own movies.

  2. What he did was clearly wrong, but I have some sympathy for him, because he’s become an outcast, and life will be difficult for him. I sense that he’s truly sorry for what happened. Can we eventually forgive him? I think he’s basically a good person.

    1. Oh he’ll be forgiven. In about 10 years. Or maybe after his next great film. The public is fickle; who knows. The world needs more people like you, Kathy — sympathetic, empathetic, trying to understand. <3

        1. It would help a lot, but I don’t have much confidence in our fellow human beings (and not even in myself). I know I still harbor some grudges and resentments. Do you think Smith and Rock have forgiven or will forgive each other? (I’m no longer following the story.)

        2. I think Smith and Rock have already made up, if I’m remembering correctly. (Please correct me if I”m wrong) If we can’t trust our fellow human beings, I don’t think there’s any hope for us. I’m still an optimist because i believe we can learn that we’re all in this together. Mostly here, I’m thinking of climate change, which I think is our biggest threat.

        3. I don’t know if they made up. I quit following the story after a couple of days. Climate change is our biggest challenge. But we’ll have to start pulling together to get anything done, and it seems like we’re just pulling farther apart.

  3. I’m probably in the minority here…. What he did was wrong, but I really think they made a mountain out of a molehill. I don’t think a slap is that big of a deal.

    1. The Academy probably liked the extra attention since people have been losing interest. And everybody happily milked the story for all the attention they could get. Now we’re all sick of hearing about it. A couple of years from now there will likely be people asking why Will Smith isn’t at the Oscar event. Memories are short.
