Woohoo!! Jon Stewart is coming back to The Daily Show on Feb. 12. I may survive this election year after all.
He’ll just be a guest host, appearing only on Mondays, but he’ll be around at least through the November election. He’ll also be executive producer. What a gift. If anyone can find humor in the year we are facing, he can. If anyone can ask the right questions, dissect the most urgent and controversial issues, and do it with wisdom, understanding, and humor, he can.

A number of different people have hosted The Daily Show in the years since he left — and I never watched any of them. I’ve never really sought out comedy or humor as my first choice, but he’s different. He can see the humor in current events — the stuff we’re talking about. And he does it so well. (As does his protege, Stephen Colbert.)
It’s said his biggest audience is young people, whatever “young” is these days. (Definitely not me.) Hopefully it’s those until-now disillusioned young people who likely aren’t or weren’t interested in voting this year. If anyone can reach them, Stewart probably can.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”
Amen to that.

glad to hear and hope he can sort some of the overwhelming nonsense out with his indelible humor and keen sense !
If there’s any sense to be found in all this, he’ll find it. He’ll get us through the year as no one else could.
You should’ve at least tried Trevor Noah – an excellent brain and wit.
But certainly Jon is a one-off – no argument ! 🙂 And agreement, too, on his making this year bearable. Must be good noos week !
I’ve seen Trevor Noah off and on. And he’s very likable. But I watched The Daily Show for Jon Stewart and when he left I left.
We are indeed twins in temperament, Colorado ! 🙂
👍
so very happy about this
Me too, in case you couldn’t tell. One look at the way this year is shaping up and I’ll bet he couldn’t wait to come back. He’ll be up to his eyeballs in more material than he knows what to do with.
exactly what I thought, there’s no way he could bear to be gone during all this
I’m surprised he stayed away this long (since 2015).
And I am so excited to hear what he has to say about the orange guy!!
Me too! Everything the serious news guys want to say and can’t. He’s probably been saving up material since before the orange guy got elected.
People who combine humor, intelligence and common sense like Stewart and Colbert are vital to democracy. Think Mark Twain and Will Rogers. One such is now president of Ukraine.
I’d not thought about Twain and Rogers but there are definite parallels. I don’t recall now if Twain and Rogers were as knowledgeable about the way Washington and politicians actually operate behind the scenes. Stewart is really smart; he teaches as well as entertains.
