I know you think I’m obsessed with webcams. And I suppose I am. Certain ones, anyway.
My favorite is the Longs Peak webcam in Rocky Mountain National Park. It gifted me with this yesterday:
(I noticed for the first time yesterday that the camera view was refreshing every 60 seconds. The timer below it was actually moving. But today, no.)
I’m also fond of misty, foggy, or cloudy scenes, but I think on this day it was blowing snow. Lots of snow up there this week … and avalanche warnings.
RMNP apparently thinks those info blocks provide valuable information, but they sure spoil the view on the webcams. Why not put the text below the image? Or to the side?
The header image is an AI creation. And something new: When I got to it, it had already used my text for its prompts. All I did was choose a style from a list of 15 or so. Doesn’t get much easier than that. And it’s particularly helpful with a WordPress theme like this that ideally has a featured image with every post. Finally, a WordPress “improvement” that I can actually use occasionally. I can also have AI read my post and make suggestions about my writing, but all I want is spell checking. (No, AI, “provide” is not a “complex word” in my world.)

Are you referring to WP’s AI implementation? I read about it, but haven’t tried it (didn’t want to encourage them).
I miss the mountains, and, occasionally, even snow . . . until we get some, then I’m conflicted. I guess it’s nice to look at, but not experience.
However, one of the nice things about Colorado was that even after a blizzard, roads got cleaned pretty fast, and it got sunny the next day.
Yes, WP’s version. Access may depend on which WP plan you’re subscribed to, whether you have JetPack, etc. I’ve got the business plan. Frankly, I got so overwhelmed and confused so long ago, I can’t tell you anything for sure. But the AI has gotten better. Not long ago you had to write your own prompts and then step through the offerings until you found one you liked. Or not. Today’s working off my post was something new.
I don’t mind the snow. It’s pretty and it means moisture, which we always need. The solar shovel is very efficient, and I seem to have settled in a dry spot (Thornton) that doesn’t get nearly as much snow as the south and west sides of the metro. To top it off, I happen to live on a designated snow route if it’s heavy enough for the plows.
I’m on the premium plan, and it’s available whenever I add image block. I tried it just a moment ago, and it did OK. But, since I plan all the images I’m going to use well before I start composing a post, I’ll probably won’t use it much, if at all.

I love them too. I rarely get up there anymore, but I still visit this way. And some of the highway cams show roads where I have vacationed all my life.

Cool, huh? Conditions change so fast in the mountains, it’s just pure dumb luck to see something like this. Unless of course you hike around up there every day.
Thanks for reminding me about the webcam. I’m at my cabin below Mount Meeker, and the wind is shaking the cabin. I’m enjoying it. Best of all, the sun is out.
I wish they’d set up a Wild Basin cam pointed at Meeker. Most of my childhood vacations were based in Allenspark. I so envy you that cabin, in spirit, anyway. I’m such an old softie now that I’d probably only be up there in the summer, and only if the interior had been seriously modernized.
There’s no insulation, so the cold comes through the floor and walls, and I have an occasional mouse, but you can’t beat the wood-burning stove and watching the flames.
I don’t mind the occasional mouse, but I don’t handle cold very well. Still, a wood-burning stove and dancing flames crackling and popping … the stuff dreams and great conversation are made of.
The flames also make for total relaxation (like falling asleep in front of the fire). If you’re ever up in Allenspark, let me know, and you can come by.

Oh, I agree. I’m very skeptical and wary of AI in general. Too many people are too eager to misuse it. But it is occasionally useful if I can’t find an image or even imagine one for the header. I will always label it if I use it, and I’ve no intention of ever having it write for me.
