On the first day of his second term, President Donald Trump granted full pardons to all of the more than 1,500 January 6 insurrectionists. It was a mob of followers that he had encouraged, assembled, and ordered to the Capitol. Then, instead of going with them as he said he would, he watched on tv while they ransacked the US Capitol building, beat Capitol police, and searched in vain for Vice President Mike Pence, whom they intended to hang.
Now, instead of a nameless, faceless mob of rioters, artist Phil Buehler has called out each of them by name and offense. No anonymity here. On his Wall of Shame, erected on the Fourth of July in Brooklyn, NY, he included a card of information about each of the insurrectionists. The cards are deliberately colored red, white, and blue: red for the violent rioters, blue for those who damaged property, and white for the rest of them.
The mural, the third in a series by Buehler, is 50 feet long and 10 feet high. His first, in 2020, was Wall of Lies, displaying more than 30,000 lies by Trump during his first term in office. The second, erected in 2022, was Wall of Liars and Deniers. It featured 381 Republican candidates who, during their midterm campaigns, accused Democrat Joe Biden of having stolen the 2020 election.
For the detailed story of how and why the Wall of Shame was created, see “‘Don’t forget’: mural brings attention to the January 6 rioters pardoned by Trump” in today’s Guardian.

horrible
Everything about that day was and still is horrible.
what a great idea to post all that on a wall for everyone to see.
I’d like to see copies of it posted (and maintained) all over the country. Those people don’t deserve to walk free and live the rest of their lives among us in anonymity.
Oh that’s MARVELLOUS, Colorado !!! Reading about it has added an extra something to my birthday ! – thank-you, my dear friend. 🙂
I confess I didn’t have your birthday in mind when I posted it, but if it brightened your special day, I’m delighted. Cheers!!
That was a disgusting turning point for America and it should’ve been illegal to pardon them. I sometimes wonder if their members of the mask ICE agents that go around abducting people.
I thought Trump should have been impeached and convicted for both his part in the original crime and then later for pardoning all of them (proving again that he appreciated what they did for him). I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them are and delight in being ICE agents and furthering their cause that way.
Interesting how all dictators try to control information, and DJT is no exception. It actually works, in North Korea, Russia, China, etc. Technology has made it worse, multiplying sources and making it easier to sow doubts about veracity. One wall of truth is a start, and I commend it, but I fear for my country. In manipulating information, the administration has no shame. Thanks for publishing this.
I couldn’t wait to publish this. People need to know these things. I’m just sad that I didn’t see the first two walls when they were put up.
The information on the wall was compiled and fact-checked by NPR, which means there’s a file that NPR, Buehler, or someone could and should publish en toto and circulate/sell/distribute as widely as possible. There should be no hiding place for those criminals. (Their “pardons” don’t change my opinion of them.) Meanwhile, the man responsible for Jan. 6 is now president of the US.
How did we fall so far?
just a sad state we’re in.
