Several years ago the sole webcam at Colorado’s Garden of the Gods disappeared. I went back many times, hoping to see it again, and finally gave up. Then yesterday, for a reason already forgotten, I looked again. And there it was — or is — a live streaming webcam up and running at the Garden of the Gods visitor center. It doesn’t pan, but it does allow some zooming.
Admittedly it’s not the most arresting view of the famous red sandstone outcroppings (seen also at Red Rocks Amphitheater 70 miles to the north), but one can’t complain about having Pikes Peak, “America’s Mountain,” dominating the horizon. And that generous swath of ever-changing Colorado sky could prove interesting, especially at sunset (it’s a west-facing camera). A control bar at the bottom features a number of options; you can even turn on some music, if that appeals.
The park and visitor center are open daily from 5 am to 9 pm.

What a magnificent vista!
It is! And just imagine, you can drive to the top of Pikes Peak (elev. 14,115 ft) from here. Seems impossible, doesn’t it?
