Haughty Joe has got to go

Joe LiebermanSenator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced a few weeks ago that if he fails to win the Democratic primary tomorrow, he will run as an Independent in the November general election.

There are so many things wrong with his doing this, it’s hard to know where to begin. This politician I once respected (there are so few of those) has announced that if his party and his demonstrably misguided Democratic constituents renounce him in the primary, he will sally forth again in November and give them all a chance to redeem themselves by voting for Independent Joe.

It seems to me that: a.) if he’s serious about being a Democrat, he would run as one and take his lumps as one; b.) by announcing his intent to circumvent, if necessary, the decision of the voters, he has clearly demonstrated his disdain for his party, his constituents, and the electoral system; c.) he is displaying a jaw-dropping arrogance by suggesting that if the voters aren’t smart enough to choose him in the primary, he, being so much wiser than they, will find some other way to keep himself in office (he owes it to his country?).

Other issues aside, this announcement alone is reason enough to vote Joe Lieberman out of office. He has taken leave of the senses I once thought he had.

... and that's my two cents
