The politics of religion: Wright to Warren
President-elect Barack Obama has chosen Rev. Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration next month.
Warren is staunchly opposed to gay marriage and supported Prop 8 in California. A very “Christian” attitude. Clearly Obama is trying to appeal to conservatives, but to give a prominent role to a bigot like Warren seems counter to the inclusiveness Obama promotes.
Warren is the high-profile evangelical preacher and founder of California’s Saddleback megachurch, the fourth largest church in the nation.
Obama is crazy like a fox and tapping Warren may work for him, but given that any mix of politics and religion bothers me, I find it particularly disturbing.
